We took Ryan to the hospital at 7:30 a.m. By around 8:30 the anesthesiologist took him away from us to start surgery. The nurse assisting the surgeon came out a couple times to update us with his progress, and by 2:00 p.m. we saw him in the hall as they were wheeling him to the PICU. About an hour later they had him hooked up to all the needed monitors and we were then able to be with him.

In the PICU right after surgery.

I stayed the first night with Ryan. During the night, I woke up to him whimpering so I quickly got up and saw that he had flipped to his stomach and was ready to crawl off the bed. It about gave me a heart attack! After flipping over three more times and getting on all fours, his nurse finally gave him something to sedate him. Poor kid.

Eric's parent's were able to come help us during this tough time.

Ryan started doing a lot better once they were able to take out the chest tubes, central line, catheter, etc. It made a tremendous difference.

Ready to go to the play room to get some wiggles out.
A clown came to cheer us up. Ryan enjoyed all her tricks despite the look on his face.
We were able to take him home on Thursday. Look how good he looks!

I can't believe that! What a hard thing to go through. It made me SO sad to look at your little boy with all that stuff hooked up to him. He looks great in the last pictures, though! You are definitely a strong person. Good luck with everything! Off the subject...but my sister Mandy is going to Ngoya, Japan. That's probably not how you spell it. I'm sure she'll love it. She's already loving the MTC.
Wow, what a trooper. Going through all that and recovering so fast! I believe that we are all given the strength needed for our own individual trials, and I think you must have been given a lot to make it through that. I am glad you shared it with us. I hope he continues to do so well.
Love you guys!
I am so glad to see that he's doing well! What a scary thing to go through. Seeing him in that hospital gown hooked up brought back so many emotions. It's so hard to see your little baby in the hospital!! I hope Ryan's parents are doing well... and I'm glad you were able to have help from Eric's parents!
Keep up the good work, Ryan!
Eric and Kristi--I have wondered how Ryan was doing and then I remember I could check out your blog of of Jeff and Carly's. He looks so good. I can't imagine how tuff it would be to watch him after having that kind of surgery. Good luck in the future. I love catching up with you off of your blog. Congratulations for making it through your second year of school. Good luck to Ryan.

We are so glad everything went ok. We are thinking of you! He did great! It is so sad to see your child have to go through so much. And it is so amazing to see them bounce right back.
Eric and Kristi,
We are so glad to hear that everything went so well. You are amazing parents, thanks for your example. Ryan just keeps getting so big! He looks great.
Kristi (and family)- I have been thinking of you and am so glad that everything went so well!! Please let me know what I can do to help! Lots of love to Ryan.
He does look GREAT! Why did he have to have heart surgery? You are a strong Mamma to go through all that. That would be so scary, but it is good to see that he looks as healthy as can be now.
Kristi,
Im so glad that Ryan is doing well. How long before we know if the surgery will do the job? I cannot believe how good he looks after that big surgery, what a stud. Hope that you are doing well and happy. miss you
I'm so happy to hear Ryan's surgery went well. We're thinking of you three. Take care.
Your son is so cute, I know that is the only thing I ever say when I make a comment, and when I see you, but I can't help it, I sort of want him. By the way, how are things going? Getting excited for the test scores to come back, Steve's not. Hope things are going well for you all.
